ABOUT THE
GALLERIES
The
Main Gallery presents six exhibitions
each year reflecting the art an
d culture and interests of Coastal
Marin.
The
Floyd Russell Family History Room captures
the fascinating past of the seaside village through photographs
and objects from the Museums permanent collection. One
wall features changing exhibitions that present historical photographs
and stories from the colorful past of Bolinas. The History Room
was generously underwritten by Esprit co-founder and Bolinas
resident Susie Tompkins Buell, whose family has had a home in
Bolinas for many years.
The
Helene Sturdivant Mayne Photography Gallery
presents changing exhibitions of the very best in fine art photography,
installed bi-monthly. The gallery was a gift to the museum by
Lesly Mayne in honor of his wife, whose family has had a home
here since 1901. Helene was a noted pictorialist photographer
who studied with and was apprenticed to Johan Hagemeyer in the
1920s.
The
Coastal Marin Artists Gallery This
gallery is reserved to exhibit the work of artists living and
working in the Coastal Marin communities. The invitational one-person
(or occasional group) exhibitions change monthly, creating a
dynamic venue for the rich pool of local talent.
A Multi-Plex
slide viewer containing examples of the work of over 200 artists
living or working in Coastal Marin, along with their resumes
and other information is available to the public.
The
Permanent Collection Gallery exhibits
a selection of works from the museum's permanent collection.
It includes important regional artists from the mid 1800s to
present. This gallery was made possible through the generous
support of the John A. Sellon family, who endowed the gallery
space, those who have given the museum works from their own
family collections, and the generosity of others who helped
buy works that belong in this collection.
