VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Under the direction of the Museum staff, volunteers participate in all Museum programs, serve as docents and help with collections, exhibitions and fund-raising events.
Museum docents spend two- to three-hour segments each weekend greeting and interacting with visitors to the museum. Some docents have regular segments; others are flexible and volunteer once a month.
A special docent preview is held for each exhibition on the Friday evening or Saturday morning before the exhibit opens. There are refreshments and time to socialize, and then the curator leads the group through the exhibition, giving docents insight and knowledge to share with visitors. There are yearly docent parties at special venues and studio visits as well.
Docents also help with special events, such as garden tours, the Annual Art Auction, exhibition openings, lectures, performances, school tours and other special events.
Volunteers work in the history collections, do research, work on educational projects, serve as guest curators, assist in construction of displays, and help with outreach programs.
If you are interested in becoming a docent or volunteer, please call the museum at 415-868-2006.
