Volunteer Opportunities

The Bolinas Museum owes much of its success to the time and talents of our many volunteers: Board members, docents, event volunteers working on special projects in the collections or history archives, educational projects, or serving as a guest curator when invited. Volunteers help with construction of displays and educational outreach and
help staff with openings, parties and the larger production of our annual art auction. Everyone enjoys being part of the team!

Perhaps the most rewarding volunteer job is to serve as a docent in the gallery.  The morning before each opening of new exhibitions, we hold the docent preview. It is a remarkable opportunity to hear from the exhibiting artists and curators as they talk to our small group about their work, their lives and inspiration. It is always a fascinating experience.  The docents then have the insight and information to help enrich the experience of visitors to the exhibitions.  Docents work at least one 2½ hour shift per month at the front desk of the museum interacting with our visitors. Staff members are present if  they need more information. This is a wonderful way to meet people and make new friends. And the museum hosts a yearly appreciation party for our great volunteers!
